Perrin Ryal
Shoe Guru
Perrin is one of the newest additions to the shop staff, having started just about a year and a half ago. Before that, she was a long-time shopper. (She bought her first pair of ‘official running shoes’ for her sixth-grade cross country team back when the store was across the street!) She started running at Friend’s Central School to bypass the required gym class that all non-athletes had to take and the rest is history. She ended up running cross country and track at Haverford High School and Albright College. She also spent time as a coach, joining the staff at Merion Mercy Academy to help guide young runners.
“Attending the Aim High Running Camp in high school with the Haverford High School team, racing an 800 at The Armory in NYC then cooling down ‘on Broadway’ in Washington Heights, and passing hundreds of people a minute at the Broad Street Run finish line. I had too much left in the tank, but endorphins were flowing, and it was one of the most fun races I’ve ever ran!”
.”
FAVORITE RUNNING MEMORY:
“My body! I’ve been injured and I know that if I don’t take care of it then I won’t be able to do what I love. After that would be my Garmin 35 watch so I can watch my steps, heart rate, distance, calories...all of that!”
“Run on the track and run 5x200s on February 22nd at The Armory. I want to race an 800 on the track this summer. More abstractly is just to develop sustainable patterns, including physical therapy and pool workouts to move and do what I love. Keep walking and be able to go for a few runs a month.”
Walks, runs, yoga, walking our French bulldog, teaching ESOL class, little craft projects, preparing nourishing food, enjoying a glass of wine with loved ones.
NON-RUNNING HOBBIES:
“I am a certified yoga teacher. I was a part-time Spanish teacher at St. Francis of Assisi School in Springfield, PA, for two years. I am also convinced that mental health IS physical health
